Two killed in wild elephant attack

COX'S BAZAR, Apr 30: A woman and her daughter were killed in a wild elephant attack in Abdul Karim Colony of Paschim Para in Khuniapalong Union of Ramu Upazila of the district on Thursday morning.

The deceased were identified as Chhenuara Begum, 27, wife of Ekram Ullah of Paschim Para of Dakkhin Khuniapalong, and her daughter Asma Bibi, 3.

Local resident Belal Uddin said that after three wild elephants suddenly entered the locality, there was a panic among all. Hearing the noise, Ekram Ullah and his wife came out of the house. 

As two elephants attacked them, Ekram Ullah quickly ran behind the house with his six-year-old son Rehan Uddin. However, the elephants attacked Chhenuara Begum and her daughter and they died on the spot.

Khuniapalong UP Member Joynal Abedin Babul said that the victims are Rohingyas. They had been living there for several years by building a house on the Forest Department land.

Cox's Bazar South Forest Division's Dhoapalong Range Officer Md Tosaddek Hossain said that necessary measures are being taken to control the movement of wild elephants.

Ramu Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said that the bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsies.
