Police have seized 30 kilograms of hemp from a locked rented house at Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur district on Friday, while the suspected tenant managed to evade arrest during the drive.
The drive took place at Arambagh area of ward no. 5 under Mathbaria Municipality.
The suspect, identified as Sajidur Rahman Majid, resident of Choto Shoula village under Mirukhali union, had been living for an extended period in the rented house.
According to police sources, a team from Mathbaria Police Station stormed the residence, on a tip-off. Upon searching the locked room, officials found 30kg of hemp worth about Tk 15 lakh.
Mathbaria Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Rabiul Islam confirmed the incident stating that while the drugs were successfully confiscated, the accused fled the scene before the drive.
He added that efforts are underway to arrest Majid and legal proceedings are being initiated.
