A truck driver was killed in a 'mob beating' at Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur on Friday night after his reckless driving left at least seven pedestrians injured and caused significant damage.

The incident occurred around 10PM at Bilnalia Nutan Hatkhola area of Talma Union.

The deceased was identified as Hannan, 45, a resident of Satair village at Boalmari upazila. The truck's assistants were also severely beaten.

According to local sources and witnesses, the truck was speeding through narrow village roads. Reports said that before reaching the final crash site, the vehicle had already hit several pedestrians in the Rasulpur area and attempted to flee the scene.

The rampage ended when the truck lost control and crashed into 'Munshi Store,' a local shop at Nutan Hatkhola market.
Following the collision, an agitated crowd intercepted the vehicle and started  physically assaulting the driver and his assistants. The mob also vandalized the truck.

Upon receiving the news, Nagarkanda Circle Police Assistant Superintendent Mahmudul Hasan and Nagarkanda Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Rasul Samadani Azad arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, rescued the injured men and transported them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared the driver dead.

"Initial investigations says the truck had been involved in multiple accidents while attempting to escape," said OC Rasul Samadani Azad.

He confirmed that the seven injured pedestrians are receiving treatment at the hospital.

The driver’s body has been sent to the hospital morgue for an autopsy, a thorough investigation is underway and legal action will be taken regarding both the accidents and the subsequent lynching.
