Police have recovered the body of a female police constable from her rented apartment at Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district on Saturday morning.

The incident took place at West Badurtali area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Meherunnessa Urmi, 28, a constable at Kalapara Police Station and wife of Mohibabur Rahman Bappi, a dismissed police member.

The couple, along with their two children had been residing on the third floor of a local five-story building for the past eight months.

Neighbors reported that the couple frequently engaged in domestic disputes.

According to police sources, Bappi called Kalapara Police Station around 1:30 AM on Friday night, claiming his wife had committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after to recover the body and secure evidence.

Kalapara Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Nazrul Islam stated that while the death is being treated as a suspected suicide, a thorough investigation is underway to determine if there were other factors involved.

He added that the body is being sent to Patuakhali general Hospital morgue for an autopsy to confirm the exact cause of death.

For their safety and mental support, the victim’s husband and two young children have been taken to the police custody as legal proceedings continue, added the OC.
