7 'drug peddlers' held in Savar-Ashulia drives

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested seven alleged drug peddlers in separate drives in Savar and Ashulia areas.

The arrested were identified as Koran Ali, 45, Sajib, 23, and Iman Ali, 35, of Zaynabari area under Hemayetpur; Chanchal Luis Rozario, 50, and Shanto Islam, 34, of Kamalapur under Birulia; and Yunus, 35, and Maidul, 32, of Samair area.

According to the DB, special drives were conducted from Saturday night to early Sunday across different areas of Savar, during which Yaba pills and locally made liquor were seized.

Police said a team conducted a drive in Zaynabari on Saturday night and arrested three suspects with 100 pieces of Yaba pills, estimated to be worth around Tk 30,000.

In another drive in Kamalapur, two more were held with 65 litres of locally made liquor, valued at approximately Tk 65,000.

Later, in the early hours of Sunday, DB personnel arrested two others from Samair area along with 110 pieces of Yaba pills, worth around Tk 33,000.

Dhaka District North DB Police Inspector Md Saidul Islam confirmed the arrests through a press release issued on Sunday afternoon.

Inspector Saidul Islam said Koran Ali and Chanchal Luis Rozario had previous records of drug-related cases.

The arrested were produced before the court on Sunday after filing cases under the Narcotics Control Act with respective police stations.

Such drives would continue as part of ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking, added the official.
