Four more garment factories in the country have been included in the list of green factories. With this, the number of green factories in the country has increased to 284.
Mohiuddin Rubel, former director of BGMEA, gave this information on Sunday citing the US Green Building Council (USGBC) Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).
The US Green Building Council (USGBC) Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) provides certification for green factories or green factories. According to the US Green Building Council (USGBC), there are now 284 green factories in the country. Of these, 144 are in the gold category, 121 in the platinum, 15 in the silver and four in the certified category. In addition, more than 550 factories are registered or in the pipeline to become green factories.
Meanwhile, 68 of the top 100 garment factories are in Bangladesh. The second highest is Pakistan with seven and the third position is Indonesia with six.
The factories that have newly received the Green Factory certificate are - Pahartali Textile Limited of Chittagong, Weldon Apparel Limited of Gazipur, Everbright Sweater Limited of Savar and Siam Computerized Elastic Industries Limited of Gazipur.
