Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman stated on Tuesday that Bangladesh will take necessary measures if any "push-in" attempts occur following the political transition in India’s West Bengal state.

The minister made the remarks following a meeting with a visiting US delegation at the state guest house in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

His remarks came amid heightened political activity in the neighboring Indian state, where election results are anticipated to impact regional dynamics.

Regarding the long-pending Teesta water-sharing treaty, Dr. Rahman clarified that the final decision rests with the Indian government. Whether the treaty will be signed under a new administration in West Bengal remains India's prerogative, he noted.

The Foreign Minister also shared details about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s upcoming diplomatic schedule. He announced that the prime minister is likely to visit either China or India in June.

During the potential trip to China, discussions are expected to center on the Teesta Mega Plan, a major development initiative for the river basin.
