A local Jamaat-e-Islami leader was hacked to death in Bagerhat's Chitalmari upazila on Thursday morning.

Deceased Muzahid Mollah, 40, served as the president of ward no 3 of Hizla unit. He had also led a grocery shop near his house.

Around 7AM, a person named Baijid Ijarader bought a juice from Muzahid Mollah's shop and said that the juice is not good. At one stage, both locked into a feud over the issue that led to the killing. Baijid suddenly hacked Muzahid with a lethal weapon, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued and rushed him to Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared Muzahid dead.

Hizla union Jamaat ameer Sohel Sheikh said, ''We are demanding a fair trial after investigating whether there is any political or personal conflict behind this murder.''

Baijid was arrested, said Chitalmari Police Station OC Nazrul Islam.
