Dr. Israfil Shaheen has been appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the newly established Thakurgaon University.
The appointment was announced in a government notification signed by Md Sultan Ahmed, Assistant Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education, on Wednesday (May 6).
Dr. Israfil Shaheen was appointed with the approval of the President, who is also the Chancellor of the university, the notification said.
It states that he will serve for a term of four years from the date of joining or until the date of his retirement, whichever comes first.
During his tenure, he will receive salary and allowances equivalent to those of his current position, alongwith other benefits in accordance with existing rules and regulations.
Dr. Israfil Shaheen is a well-known figure in Bangladesh's theatre and academic communities.
