Seven people have died with measles-like symptoms and 282 new cases of measles have been confirmed across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Friday.

According to the latest health bulletin, a total of 58 children have died from confirmed measles infections in the country since March 15. In addition, 285 people showing measles-related symptoms have also died during the same period, highlighting the continued severity of the outbreak.

The DGHS data shows that the highest number of deaths with measles symptoms was recorded in Dhaka Division, where 132 people have died since mid-March, followed by Rajshahi Division with 78 deaths.

Hospital admissions also remain high. In the past 24 hours alone, 1,212 people with measles-like symptoms sought treatment at hospitals nationwide, of whom 950 were admitted for further care.

Dhaka Division recorded the highest number of new admissions with 451 patients hospitalised, while Rangpur Division reported the lowest with 14 admissions during the same period.

Since March 15, the country has recorded a total of 46,710 suspected measles cases. Of these, 6,490 have been confirmed through laboratory testing.

Health authorities say the rising number of suspected and confirmed cases is placing continued pressure on healthcare facilities across multiple divisions, particularly in densely populated urban areas where admissions remain concentrated.

The DGHS continues to monitor the situation closely as infections spread, with officials urging early treatment and heightened awareness to help control further transmission.
