NETRAKONA, May 9: A non-governmental voluntary organisation 'Jana Udyog' formed a human chain at Ananda Bazar intersection in the town on Saturday at 11 am demanding the demolition of the dangerous footbridge over the Magra River and the construction of a wide bridge there to ease traffic congestion.

Convener of the District Jana Udyog and valiant freedom fighter Haider Jahan Chowdhury, fellow of Jana Udyog and veteran journalist Shyamolendu Pal, President of the Shikor Unnayan Karmasuchi AFM Rafiqul Islam Apel, journalist AKM Abdullah, Treasurer of Netrakona District Press Club Sujadul Islam Faras and Joint General Secretary of the Municipal BNP Md Sanaullah spoke.

The speakers in the human chain said that Netrakona District Town is a one-road town. A footbridge was built over the Magra River in 1993 to facilitate easy travel between Satpai and Ananda Bazar and Hossainpur inter-district bus stand. Along with the increase in population in the district town, the number of vehicles is increasing significantly. This is putting pressure on the roads in the town. Working hours are being wasted due to long traffic jams. A major accident can occur if the dilapidated Ananda Bazar footbridge collapses at any time.
