Country's stability brings relief

After a long time, the people of the country have now started to breathe a sigh of relief. The lives of the common people, which were once miserable due to power outages, fuel shortages, traffic jams and rising prices of daily necessities, have seen some positive changes in recent times. Uninterrupted power supply, easy availability of fuel oil and the partial normalization of the international situation have instilled new hope in the minds of the people.

Especially as the Iran-Israel-America tensions have subsided somewhat, there is a message of relief in the global energy market, which is very important for an import-dependent country like Bangladesh. The impact of global political tensions directly affects our economy and public life. Therefore, global stability is not only a diplomatic issue for Bangladesh, it is also a question of economic security.
The biggest challenge before the new government is to make this relief permanent. The people no longer want to just hear promises; they want to see visible changes. Maintaining stability in the power and energy sectors, controlling commodity prices and improving the law and order situation are the biggest demands of the time. Because the economy gains momentum only when people can live a safe and comfortable life. If employment is increased, an investment-friendly environment is created and uninterrupted power supply to industries is ensured, the country's economic wheels will turn faster.

However, one of the biggest obstacles to development is mismanagement and encroachment. As the sidewalks and roads of the country's major cities, including the capital, have been occupied by hawkers for a long time, ordinary pedestrians have been suffering immensely.

The government must strictly establish this reality that sidewalks are for people to walk on, not for setting up shops. However, a humanitarian perspective is also necessary. Initiatives such as planned temporary markets, activating unused markets and expanding multi-story markets can be taken to rehabilitate the truly helpless hawkers. But in no way can the roads and sidewalks be allowed to return to their previous chaos from being free of encroachment.

Similarly, the uncontrolled movement of auto-rickshaws and illegal vehicles is also creating chaos in urban life. Clear policies and effective control systems are needed. To build a developed city, it is essential to restore order in the transportation system. Road management often collapses due to weak urban planning and political influence. Strict administrative decisions are necessary in these places.

The most important issue is corruption control. If irregularities and waste of money in mega and semi-mega projects cannot be stopped, the benefits of development will not reach the people. Visible measures must be taken against extortion, grab trade and administrative corruption. The people now want a state system where the law is equally effective for everyone.

Bangladesh is a country of potential. To make this potential a reality, good governance, accountability and realistic planning are needed. If the government can bring effective changes in electricity, energy, law and order, commodity prices and urban management, the country will not just walk but run. Therefore, the biggest responsibility before the new government now is to build an effective state system combining development and discipline while maintaining the trust of the people.
