A mob has beaten three suspected cattle thieves to death in Gazipur's Kaliakair. Agitated locals also set a pickup van on fire.

The incident occurred early on Sunday morning in the Bagchala Bazar area of Fulbaria Union.
The dead have yet to be identified.

Police and locals say that a gang of 11-12 cattle thieves drove a pickup van to the home of Abu Bakr Siddique in the Bagchala area and attempted to steal cattle from his cowshed. When the owner noticed the attempted theft, he screamed, and locals began chasing the thieves.

The locals caught three of the alleged thieves and attacked them. They also used lock-cutting tools, machetes, and knives in the attack and set the pickup van on fire.

Police from Kaliakair Police Station and the Fulbaria Police Camp arrived at the scene and rescued the three injured men once the incident was reported. The law enforcers took them to Gazipur's Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared them dead.

Shahidul Islam, chief of Kaliakair Police Station, confirmed the incident.

Legal action will be taken over the matter, he said.

The bodies are being kept in the hospital morgue for the time being.    "bdnews24
