A youth died by committing suicide after allegedly being denied a mobile phone in Jhenaidah’s Kotchandpur upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Rakib, 17, son of Abu Musa of Adarshapara Railgate area under Kotchandpur municipality.
According to family sources, Rakib had an altercation with his parents at noon over buying a mobile phone.
Later, at some point in the afternoon, he allegedly hanged himself from the ceiling of his room while other family members were unaware of the matter.
Sensing the matter, relatives rescued him in a critical condition and took him to Kotchandpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Jhenaidah General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Kotchandpur Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) said police primarily suspect it to be a case of suicide.
Preparation is underway to file an unnatural death (UD) case in this connection, the OC added.
