Under the initiative of the Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Association (BBSA), introductory programmes and exhibition matches "Baseball5" were held on Wednesday at two renowned English-medium educational institutions in Dhaka - Springdale International School and The New School Dhaka.
Baseball5, a modern and simplified version of baseball, is gaining popularity among young people worldwide.
With minimal equipment requirements, limited space needs, and shorter match durations, the game is considered highly suitable for school-based sports activities.
Under the supervision of the World Baseball Softball Confederation, Baseball5 has expanded rapidly across many countries, creating new opportunities for youth participation in sports.
The first session began in the morning at Springdale International School, where students participated in a theoretical class on Baseball5. The session covered the rules of the game, basic techniques, its significance in the international sports arena, and future development prospects.
Later, the New School Dhaka hosted another theoretical session followed by a Baseball5 exhibition tournament at the Banani field. Four teams took part in the competition, and the matches generated significant enthusiasm and excitement among participating students.
The association also announced plans to organize a large-scale "Inter-School Baseball5 Championship" at the school level next November. In preparation, Baseball5 awareness programmes and training camps will continue in various schools in Dhaka and other regions of the country until November.
The Bangladesh Baseball-Softball Association expressed hope that this initiative will help build a strong foundation for baseball at the school level and create a sustainable player development
pathway.
The organization further aims to nurture skilled age-group players who can eventually represent Bangladesh at the international level. "BSS
