Forkan Molla, the prime suspect in the gruesome quintuple murder at Kapasia upazila of Gazipur district, remains missing after jumping off the Padma Bridge.

Police confirmed the matter on Thursday during a press conference at Gazipur, citing CCTV footage from the bridge.

Superintendent of Police (SP)Md. Sharif Uddin stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of May 11.

Footage shows a white private car stopping near the middle of the Padma Bridge. Forkan, dressed in a white shirt, exited the vehicle, stood by the railing for a moment and then jumped into the river after leaving behind his mobile phone and a black bag, the SP added.

"We recovered the mobile phone from Meherpur after it was initially picked up by a truck assistant," the SP said.

He added that all police stations along the Padma River have been alerted to recover the body, while the CID and police continue to investigate the full circumstances of the case.

The suspect, Forkan, had been on the run since Saturday, May 9, after allegedly slitting the throats of his wife, three daughters and brother-in-law at a rented house at Rautkon area of Kapasia.

Police had earlier recovered notes and evidence from the crime scene that pointed toward Forkan's involvement in the pre-planned murders.
