Elderly man drowns in Dinajpur river

An elderly man drowned while crossing the Karatoa River in Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat upazila on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Sakoayad, 65, a resident of Shalikadah area under Bulakipur union in the upazila.

According to locals, Sakoayad went to bring back his domesticated ducks across the river in the morning. At one stage, he drowned after sinking into deep water in the middle of the river.

Locals spotted the incident and tried to rescue him before informing the Fire Service.

Later, a team from Ghoraghat Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the river.

Confirming the matter, Ghoraghat Fire Service station officer said the rescue team recovered the body shortly after receiving the information.
