Two Bangladeshi expatriates were killed when a cargo truck crushed their motorcycle on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Ashuganj upazila of Brahmanbaria district.

The accident took place at around 4:00 PM on Friday at Sonarampur area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Ziaul Amin, 25, son of Alkas Miah and Shah Alam, 30, son of Shahed Ali. Both were residents of Panishwar union of Sarail upazila.

The duo worked in the Middle East, Ziaul in Saudi Arabia and Shah Alam in the United Arab Emirates and had recently returned home on leave.

According to police and family sources, the two friends were riding their motorcycle toward Ashuganj. When they reached the Sonarampur area on the highway, a Sylhet-bound cargo truck hitting from behind ran over them, leaving the motorcycle completely mangled. Both riders died on the spot.

Upon receiving the news, Sarail Khatihata Highway Police rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies.
Sarail Khatihata Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Abu Taher said, "We recovered the bodies and prepared the inquest reports. At the request of the family members, the bodies were handed over without an autopsy following standard legal procedures."

Police have seized the killer truck, though the driver managed to flee the scene. Legal procedures regarding the accident are currently underway, the OC added.
