Research drives progress at JnU History dept

The History Department at Jagannath University (JnU) is steadily emerging as a vibrant centre of academic and research activity, with growing student participation, expanding scholarly engagement and a renewed focus on analytical learning.

Faculty members and students say the department has witnessed significant progress in recent years through a combination of regular academic programmes, research initiatives and cultural engagement, helping create a dynamic environment for higher learning.

Professor Dr Nasir Ahmad said the department has moved beyond conventional classroom teaching by regularly organising seminars, research presentations and academic discussions aimed at deepening students' interest in historical studies.

The department is led by Chair Professor Murshida Binte Rahman. Its faculty members include Professors Shamsun Nahar, Mohammad Salim, Khodeja Khatun, Shahid Kader Chowdhury, Mohammad Bilal Hossain, Md. Mamunur Rashid and Md. Abdus Samad. Associate professors include Afsana Ahmed, S.M. Tanveer Ahmed, Md. Hasan Mofizur Rahman, Tapan Kumar Palit and Md. Abdul Mannan Hawlader.

The department's assistant professors are Khaleda Chowdhury and Umme Salma Hridoy, while lecturers include Abul Bashar Md Ismail Hossain and Md. Mominul Islam.
