KUET student drowns in campus pond

A student of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) drowned in a pond adjacent to Khan Jahan Ali Hall on the university campus on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as SM Sayem Ferdous, son of Md Abdus Samad of Dilalpur PK Saha Road area in Pabna district. He was a student of the 2024 batch of the Architecture Department.

According to university sources, Sayem Ferdous went underwater while swimming in the pond beside Khan Jahan Ali Hall.

After being informed by fellow students and eyewitnesses, a diving team from the Fire Service conducted a rescue operation and recovered him from the water.

He was rushed to a hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Hearing the news, KUET Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Muhammad Masud, Director of Student Welfare, hall provost, registrar and other senior university officials visited both the scene and the hospital.

The vice-chancellor expressed deep shock over the incident and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.

He also assured all necessary support from the university administration regarding the matter.
