Bangladesh Bank (BB) has released banknotes bearing the signature of Governor Mostaqur Rahman, who took office in February this year.

The notes became available from Monday, initially only at Bangladesh Bank's Motijheel office, before rolling out to all commercial banks in phases, according to bdnews24.com.

The central bank said the Tk 1,000, Tk 500, and Tk 10 denominations have been reprinted with its chief's signature, with Tk 20, Tk 50, and Tk 100 notes to follow.

Only the signature has changed -- the colour, security threads, and size of the notes remain the same as the existing design, it added.

Notes of Tk 1, Tk 2, and Tk 5 denominations have not yet been printed under the new design.

This update follows a major design shift initiated by the interim government after the fall of the Awami League administration during the 2024 July Uprising.

As part of these changes, the image of independence architect Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was removed from the currency.
