The Ministry of Defence on Monday warned people against a fraud ring that is issuing fake legal notices using the ministry's name to harass people and extort money.

In a statement, the ministry said the fraudsters are sending false and fabricated legal notices to people in different districts of the country accusing them of involvement in criminal activities and threatening them with imprisonment, fines and other punishments, said release of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate this evening.

It said the ministry clarified that there is no department, branch or cell named "Law Control Department" or "Crime Unit Cell" under the Ministry of Defence and the ministry does not conduct such activities at all.
