Autorickshaw driver killed in N’ganj road crash

An autorickshaw driver was killed after being hit by a speeding car on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Sonargaon upazila of Narayanganj district on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Md. Faruk, 41, from Feni district. He resided in a rented house at Meghna area of the upazila.

Police and locals said the accident occurred at around 5:00 AM  at the Dhaka-bound lane near Meghna Toll Plaza area. Faruk was driving his autorickshaw along the highway when a reckless, car rammed his three-wheeler from behind and fled the scene.

The impact left the autorickshaw completely mangaled, killing Faruk on the spot. 

Upon receiving the information, a team from Kanchpur Highway Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Kanchpur Highway Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Shamim Sheikh confirmed the matter, stating that the car fled immediately after the crash, making it impossible to seize it on the spot.

Efforts are underway to identify the vehicle and legal proceedings are ongoing, the OC added.
