Two children drown in Jamalpur while mothers busy cooking

JAMALPUR, May 21: Two children tragically drowned in separate incidents in Jamalpur while their mothers were busy with household cooking.

The incidents took place on Tuesday morning in Madarganj and Bakshiganj upazilas of the district.

The deceased were identified as one-and-a-half-year-old Yamin, son of Jahidul Islam of Betaga Village under Jorkhali Union in Madarganj, and two-year-old Mohammad Ali, son of Suja Ali of Gazirpara Village under Sadhurpara Union in Bakshiganj.

Officer-in-Charge of Madarganj Model Police Station, Snehashish Roy, confirmed the incident and said police visited the scene after receiving the information.

In a similar incident the same morning, Mohammad Ali's mother was also occupied with cooking, when the child wandered unnoticed to the nearby Singidoba beel beside their house. After an extensive search, locals found him near the edge of the wetland. He died on the way to the hospital.
