2 killed in Moulvibazar lightning strikes

Two individuals, including a farmer, were killed in separate lightning strike incidents in Moulvibazar’s Rajnagar and Kamalganj upazilas on Friday noon.

The deceased were identified as Taleb Mia, 40, son of Aiyub Mia of Bholanagar village under Kamarchak union in Rajnagar upazila and Swapan Munda, a resident of Bemari Tila area of Deorachhara Tea Garden under Rahimpur union in Kamalganj upazila.

According to police and local sources, rain and thunderstorms lashed different parts of Moulvibazar from around 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Friday.

Taleb Mia was struck by lightning while harvesting paddy in the field at noon, while Swapan Munda died after being hit by lightning while working at a rubber garden in Kamalganj.

Confirming the incidents, Rajnagar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Farid Uddin Ahmed Bhuiyan and Kamalganj Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Amir Ali said the two died after being struck by lightning while working.
