Bangladesh's growing clout in the South Asian martial arts arena received another emphatic endorsement as Shifu Dildar Hasan Dilu was elected 1st Joint Secretary of the South Asian Wushu Federation during the federation's annual general meeting and elections held at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo on Friday.
Known across Martial Arts and Wushu circles as 'Shifu Dilu', the founder and General Secretary of the Bangladesh Wushu Federation has long stood at the forefront of Wushu's rise in Bangladesh.
His election marked a significant feather in the cap for the country's sporting administration as Bangladesh secured several influential positions in the regional governing body.
Bangladesh Wushu Federation president Major General SM Ridwanur Rahman was named chairman of the Development Committee.
Senior Vice-President SM Shahidul Haque Bhuiyan was elected Senior Vice-President of the federation, while DM Rustam became an honorary member. Meanwhile, international Wushu judge Mashiur Rahman joined the Technical Committee, Abdullah Al Faisal was appointed to the Traditional Wushu Committee, and Shahrin Sultana became an honorary member of the Women's Committee.
For Bangladesh, the congress was more than a routine election; it was another sign that the nation is steadily punching above its weight in South Asian Wushu.
From grassroots development to international exposure, Shifu Dilu has been one of the chief architects behind the sport's expansion in the country. Under his stewardship, Bangladesh has regularly organised national championships, youth competitions, coaching programmes and judges' courses, helping the sport gain firmer footing nationwide.
In recognition of his contribution to Wushu development, Dilu received the prestigious "Sword of Honour" from China.
Bangladesh Wushu has also widened its horizons internationally in recent years, maintaining participation in the Asian Games and South Asian Games while accelerating preparations for the 2026 Dakar Youth Olympic Games, where Wushu is set to debut.
