Autorickshaw driver killed in Dhaka road crash

An autorickshaw driver was killed after a covered van hit him in capital’s Badda Link Road area on Friday evening.

The deceased was identified as Md Jewel Mia, 38, son of Abdul Kader from Nayakpur village under Madan upazila in Netrokona district. He had been residing with his family at Badda area.

The accident occurred around 6:00 PM when Jewel, along with two friends, was returning home. A speeding covered van struck him from behind, leaving him critically injured.

Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam said a police team rescued Jewel and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in a critical condition, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Police have seized the covered van and detained its driver and the body has been kept at DMCH for an autopsy. Legal procedures regarding the incident are currently underway, the SI added.
