China FM to chair UNSC meeting in US, visit Canada

BEIJING, May 22: China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi will travel to New York and chair a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on May 26, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Friday.

In New York, Wang will meet the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and foreign ministers from "relevant countries", the ministry said in a statement.

He will also visit Canada from May 28-30 at the invitation of his Canadian counterpart, it added.

China's ties with Canada have improved recently as the latter's relations with traditional ally Washington have soured, with Prime Minister Mark Carney visiting Beijing in January.

Wang's trip "is of great significance for consolidating the positive momentum in the improvement of bilateral relations", Chinese foreign ministry spokesman GuoJiakun told a news briefing Friday.    "AGENCIES
