State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md Rajib Ahsan recently conducted surprise inspections at several offices under the Ministry of Shipping in Barishal and Dhaka.

During the inspections, a number of officials and employees were found absent from their workplaces without prior approval from the competent authority. In some cases, staff members were also found arriving late beyond the scheduled office hours.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the irregularities, the state minister directed the authorities concerned to take immediate administrative action against those responsible for negligence and violations of discipline.

Following his directive, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) transferred 13 officials and employees from its Barishal office.

Of them, nine were from the dredging division, two from the river conservation and management division, one from the port and transport division, and one from the accounts division.

In addition, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) transferred three employees on an emergency basis.

The state minister instructed all officials and employees of the ministry and its subordinate agencies to perform their duties with sincerity, responsibility and strict compliance with office hours.

He also said surprise inspections would continue in the future to ensure discipline, accountability and improved public service delivery in government offices.
