Madrasa principal held over molesting student in Dhaka

Police have arrested the principal of a madrasa from Pachbongram area of capital’s Savar upazila on Saturday over charges of molesting a female student.

The arrested was identified as Md Kamruzzaman, 36, son of Anisur Rahman from Kumargata village at Muktagachha upazila of Mymensingh, serving as the principal of Darul Quran Baharunnesa Kamalapur Mohila Madrasa.

According to police and the victim’s family, Kamruzzaman had been harassing the seventh-grade residential student for a long time by making inappropriate remarks and touching her inappropriately.

The situation escalated on Friday afternoon around 4:00 PM when the principal found the student alone inside a large classroom and molested her. 

Following the incident, the victim's father filed a written complaint with the Savar Model Police Station.

Acting on the complaint, a team from Bhawanipur police outpost conducted a drive at the madrasa on Saturday noon and apprehended the accused principal.

Savar Model Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Md Imran Hossain confirmed the arrest and stated that the preparation to file a formal case in this connection is currently underway. 

The arrested principal, along with the victim for recording her statement, will be forwarded to the court on Sunday noon, the SI added.
