RAB to oversee forcible cattle truck diversions

Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Md Ahsan Habib Palash on Sunday said their Eid  special surveillance has been intensified in order to prevent sacrificial animal transport vehicles from being forced to enter specific cattle markets.
Every year ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, such cattle trucks diverting was reported.

Talking to reporters after visiting the Gabtoli Cattle Market, RAB-DG confirmed necessary  security measures in the capital and across the country to maintain law and order during the Eid period.

The RAB official added that along with other law enforcement agencies, the RAB  has set up checkpoints at different key points of the capital and the country, with  control rooms installed in cattle haats.

RAB battalions are conducting intensified patrols in their respective areas to ensure the safe transportation of livestock to markets, and checkpoints are also being operated at vulnerable and important locations to bolster security, he further said.

The public movement in major cities, including Dhaka, usually decreases during Eid holidays, creating a higher risk of robbery and snatching targeting cattle traders carrying large sums of money. That is why the RAB has increased  security posts and patrol teams.

RAB chief urged people to avoid carrying cash and instead use cashless or card-based payment systems.

Also necessary equipment has been kept ready to detect counterfeit currency, while drives against fake currency syndicates are continuing, he added.

He warned: Legal action will be taken against anyone spreading rumours or misleading content on social media regarding Eid and animal sacrifice.
