
NARAYANGANJ, MAY 24: The "Khaleda Zia Memorial Football Tournament" (Under-17), sponsored by the Mostafizur Rahman Foundation in memory of former prime minister and former BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, was inaugurated on Saturday afternoon at the Osmani Municipal Stadium in Isdair, Narayanganj.
Member of Parliament for Narayanganj-2 Nazrul Islam Azad attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest and formally inaugurated the tournament by releasing balloons.
The event was presided over by Narayanganj Football Academy president Fateh Mohammad Reza Ripon, while chairman of the Mostafizur Rahman Foundation Rakibul Islam Rakib addressed the gathering as the chief speaker.
Among others present were Narayanganj city BNP member secretary Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, district BNP joint convener Masukul Islam Rajib, Fatullah thana BNP organising secretary Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury, city Jubo Dal convener Monirul Islam Sajal, Sadar thana BNP organising secretary Nazmul Hossain, district Mohila Dal president Rahima Sharif Maya, former Chhatra Dal leader Mazharul Islam Joseph and Moazzem Hossain Monty.
A total of 16 teams from Narayanganj's first division clubs and football academies are participating in the tournament.
Speaking at the event, MP Nazrul Islam Azad said BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has been giving importance to sports as it contributes positively to society and helps keep young people away from harmful activities.
He praised the organisers for arranging the tournament and encouraged them to continue organising sporting events every year.
"We are always beside you through the Mostafizur Rahman Foundation and will continue to support such initiatives in the future," he said.
