Launch services from Sadarghat Terminal resumed on Tuesday afternoon after remaining suspended for around an hour due to adverse weather conditions.
The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) temporarily halted the movement of all passenger launches from the terminal after 12:00 PM as heavy rain, strong winds and storm warnings raised safety concerns on river routes.
Authorities said launch operations were resumed around 1:30 PM after weather conditions improved.
BIWTA officials said all launches operating from Sadarghat and Narayanganj were allowed to resume services with instructions to maintain caution and avoid carrying excess passengers. River ports across the country were still showing signal number 2, they added.
During the suspension, many passengers travelling to southern districts faced uncertainty after arriving at the terminal with tickets. Normalcy returned after launch movement resumed.
Meanwhile, ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route, which had also been suspended from 11:20 AM due to a nor’wester and heavy rainfall, resumed from 12:00 PM. Ferry and launch movement on the Aricha-Kazirhat route also returned to normal later in the day.
However, authorities said launch and speedboat services on several smaller regional routes, including Chairmanghat, Majuchowdhury Hat and parts of the Barishal region, remained temporarily suspended due to rough weather and strong winds.
