Oil tanker catches fire in Chattogram

An oil tanker anchored at the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port caught fire on Thursday, May 28, morning.

The authorities concerned said the vessel named MT Meghna Trader caught fire at about 7:25am.

On information, multiple units of the Bangladesh Coast Guard began operations to bring the fire under control.

Coast Guard sources said that vessels Shyamol Bangla and BCGT Promotto joined the firefighting efforts while two more firefighting teams equipped with high-speed boats from BCG Base Chattogram and BCG Outpost Patenga were deployed to the scene.

Coast Guard Eastern Zone Media Control Room confirmed the incident.

Cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be immediately determined. Coast Guard personnel were continuing efforts to douse the fire while writing this report.
