Thunderstorms likely in 23 Dists

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds and lightning in 23 districts across the country by Friday night.

In a Kalbaishakhi and lightning warning issued through its verified Facebook page on Friday afternoon, the weather office said the affected districts may experience rain or thundershowers several times until 9 PM.

The districts are Dhaka, Tangail, Manikganj, Gazipur, Gaibandha, Cumilla, Bagerhat, Barishal, Patuakhali, Bhola, Shariatpur, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Jamalpur, Sherpur, Kishoreganj and Brahmanbaria.

BMD advised people to avoid staying outdoors during lightning strikes.

Meanwhile, in its 24-hour weather forecast from 9 AM on Friday, the department said light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning may occur at a few places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions and at one or two places over Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions.

Moderately heavy rainfall may also occur at places across the country, the forecast added.

Day temperature may remain nearly unchanged across the country, while night temperature may rise slightly, according to the BMD.
