Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has resigned citing health reasons.

The information was confirmed by the Prime Ministers Press Wing.

He tendered his resignation on Monday, the first day after the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.

Dewan submitted his resignation letter to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, mentioning that his health condition is preventing him from carrying out his official duties properly, said Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon.

''Due to my physical illness, various problems are being created in carrying out the regular responsibilities of the ministry,'' Dipen Dewan wrote in the letter.

Dewan said stepping down from his current position has become necessary in the interest of maintaining the momentum of the government’s development and administrative activities.

Dipen Dewan had been serving as the Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs in the government formed after the BNP's landslide victory in the February 12 general election.
