Adolescent killed in mortar shell explosion at Myanmar border

An 11-year old adolescent was killed in an abandoned mortar shell explosion across Ghumdhum bordering area in Naikhyongchhari upazila of Bandarban on Tuesday.

The deceased is identified as Suminaing Tanchangya, 11, son of Qinghla Tanchangya from Baishfari Tanchangya.
 
Locals and family sources said that Suminaing went to work with her mother in a Zoom field for cultivation in the morning. In the afternoon, he saw an abandoned mortar shell beside the barbed wire on the Myanmar border. The boy took the shell into a Zoom hut and started playing with it. At one stage, the shell got exploded leaving Suninaing dead on the spot. 

Ghumdhum Union Parishad (UP) member Babul Chakma confirmed the incident.
