A 60-year-old man has allegedly raped a 12-year-old schoolgirl, leaving her five months pregnant, at Shahrasti upazila of Chandpur district.

The accused, identified as Nasir Uddin, reportedly went into hiding after the matter came to light.

The victim, a fourth-grade student of a government primary school at Chitoshi East union, is a daughter of physically challenged parents. According to family and local sources, the victim frequently worked at the house of the accused to assist with household chores.

The victim stated that Nasir Uddin had touched her inappropriately on several occasions over the last few months. In February, he allegedly confined and raped her inside a room. The accused also threatened to kill her parents if she disclosed the incident to anyone, leaving the child too terrified to speak out.

The matter came to light on June 2 when the girl’s aunt noticed physical changes in her. Upon being questioned, the victim disclosed the ordeal. A subsequent medical examination confirmed that she was five months pregnant.

Local Union Parishad member Md Aminul Islam condemned the incident, describing it as a shameful act against a helpless family and called for exemplary punishment.

Shahrasti Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Mir Mahbubur Rahman stated that no formal complaint has been filed yet.

He assured that legal action would be taken and a thorough investigation launched as soon as a written complaint is received.
