Minor girl drowns in Phulbari river 

 
PHULBARI, KURIGRAM, June 5: An eight-year-old girl drowned in the Nilkamal River in Phulbari Upazila of Kurigram while visiting her maternal grandparents' house.

The deceased, Muntaha Jannat, 8, was the daughter of Abdul Matin and Mima of Khochabari Village under Vangamora Union of the same upazila.

Fire service personnel recovered the body from the Nilkamal River at around 8:30 pm on Wednesday under the Barovita Union.

Police and local sources said Muntaha Jannat had gone to her maternal grandfather Gafur Mia's house in Dakshin Char Barovita Pathantari Village with her parents on Wednesday.

At some point during her stay, she went missing from near the house without the knowledge of her parents or other family members and drowned in the nearby Nilkamal River.

Fire Service in Phulbari was later informed. A rescue team reached the spot and launched a search operation. After hours of searching, they recovered the body from the river at around 8:30pm.
