State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque on Friday laid the foundation stone of the Patia Upazila Mini Stadium construction project in Patia upazila of Chattogram.

Local lawmaker Mohammad Enamul Haque attended the ceremony as a special guest. Among others, Executive Director of the National Sports Council Md. Daulatuzzaman Khan and Project Director of the Upazila Mini Stadium Second Phase Project Mahbub Morshed Sohel were present.

Addressing the function, the State Minister said the mini stadium would be constructed in accordance with the approved design and stressed the importance of active participation by local people and stakeholders for its proper maintenance.

Highlighting the government's efforts to promote sports at the grassroots level, he said there is no alternative to sports in building a healthy, disciplined and drug-free nation.

Aminul said the country's sports sector has been witnessing steady progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. As part of the government's initiatives to support athletes, sports allowance and sports card distribution programmes have already been introduced, he added.

The State Minister also announced that the second phase of the Notun Kuri Sports Programme would begin next September. The programme aims to strengthen grassroots sports development through the formation of teams at the union level and the identification and nurturing of young sporting talents across the country.

Expressing optimism about the project, Aminul said the modern mini stadium would play an important role in producing skilled athletes from Patia capable of representing the country at the national level.

He hoped that the construction work would be completed successfully with the cooperation of all concerned.    "BSS
