Ali Akbar Khan, the acting chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), has applied for voluntary retirement after his name was left off a recent promotion list for the rank of additional inspector general of police (IGP), according to police sources.

A senior police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Akbar submitted his application to the senior secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs after learning that he had not been promoted.
