PABNA, June 09: Three people have died from severe burn injuries sustained while torching a house of suspects involved in the rape and murder of a teenage girl in the Sadar upazila.

The deaths were confirmed on Tuesday following the passing of two victims at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Another victim had died at the same hospital on Monday. The deceased were identified as Sumon Sheikh, Saiful Islam Sabbir, and Sapu, residents of Bharara union.

The incident occurred after the body of a teenage girl was recovered from the Padma River last Wednesday. Following her burial on Thursday, a group of agitated locals set fire to houses associated with individuals suspected in the case.

During the fire, several cooking gas cylinders exploded, causing burn injuries to nearby residents and bystanders.

Police said none of the accused individuals or their family members were present in the houses at the time of the incident.

Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tarikul Islam confirmed the deaths and said legal proceedings related to both the arson and fatalities are ongoing.

The body of the victim was recovered from the Padma River. Three people, including the alleged boyfriend of the deceased, Naim, were arrested in the incident. After arrest, Naim confessed to raping and killing the girl, police said.

Authorities are interrogating the accused and necessary legal procedure is undergoing to hand over the deceased bodies, police said.
