
COX’S BAZAR, June 9: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Cox’s Bazar on June 13 for a packed one-day official tour. It will be his first visit to the coastal district in nearly two decades.
According to the finalised itinerary, the Prime Minister will arrive in Cox’s Bazar by air at 9am on Saturday. His first programme will be the inauguration of the re-excavation of Patali-Machhuakhali canal in P.M. Khali union under Cox’s Bazar Sadar Upazila at 10:30am. The canal was originally excavated under former President Ziaur Rahman 48 years ago. A brief public gathering will follow the inauguration.
At noon, he will travel to Dulhazara Safari Park in Chakaria to launch the “25 Crore Tree Plantation Programme” and inspect ongoing development works at the park. He will then travel to Pekua Upazila to offer prayers at the grave of Mohammad Wasim Akram, the first martyr from Chattogram Division during the July 2024 uprising and meet his family members.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister will attend foundation stone laying ceremonies for the newly formed Matamuhuri Upazila at 2pm and Pekua Municipality at 2:45pm. Following Zuhr prayers and lunch at Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed’s residence in Pekua, he will depart for Chakaria.
At 4pm, he will address a public rally organised by local BNP at the Chakaria Municiple Bus Terminal ground as chief guest. After the rally, he will inspect Cox’s Bazar sea beach and Marine Drive between 5pm and 6:30pm.
