Programme To Plant 25cr Trees Rolled Out In Dists

Protecting environment, addressing climate change impacts stressed

As part of the current BNP government’s one of the electoral pledges, a programme to plant 25 crore trees countrywide over the next five years has been rolled out in districts through planting different types of trees on Saturday.

KHULNA: Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Administrator Nazrul Islam Manju inaugurated the programme at Shaheed Hadis Park in the Khulna city, where the administrator planted a sapling and distributed tree saplings among participants.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest, Manju said the government is implementing various commitments made to the people, including the introduction of Family Cards, Farmers’ Cards and Health Cards, alongside reforms in the education and healthcare sectors.

He said the tree plantation initiative was undertaken by KCC following the nationwide launch of the programme by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at Dulahazara in Cox’s Bazar.

Under the initiative, KCC has set a target of planting 60,000 trees across the metropolitan area within 180 days.
Seeking cooperation from all sections of society, the administrator said KCC is committed to expanding urban greenery and creating a more environmentally sustainable city.

KCC Chief Revenue Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra chaired the programme. Former KCC Mayor Mohammad Moniruzzaman and former MP Syeda Nargis Ali, among others, attended the event.

Earlier in the day, Manju inaugurated a photo exhibition titled “Voice of the Coast: Journey of Climate Resilience” at Shaheed Hadis Park.

The exhibition was organised by the Department of Women Affairs, Khulna, highlighting activities implemented under a project financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and UNDP Bangladesh are jointly implementing the project in five upazilas of Khulna and Satkhira districts.

MUNSHIGANJ: Organised by the district administration and the Department of Forest, the inauguration ceremony of the tree plantation programmne at the District Collectorate ground was attended by Munshiganj-3 Constituency MP Md Kamruzzaman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Syeda Nurmahal Ashrafi, Superintended of Police (SP) Md Menhazul Alam PPM, Zilla Parishad Administrator AKM Iradat Manu and others.

At that time, the guests said, “Through the tree plantation programme, there is no alternative to tree plantation to combat the effects of climate change and maintain the environmental balance. Every person is urged to plant trees and take care of the planted trees at least as much as possible.”

NARAYANGANJ: The programme has been started simultaneously in 27 wards of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) inaugurated by the NCC Administrator Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan at Deobhog City Park on Saturday afternoon. NCC Acting Chief Executive Officer (Secretary) Noor Qutubul Alam and many others were present at that time.

During the inauguration, Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan said that as part of the tree plantation programme announced by the Prime Minister, 50,000 trees will be planted in 27 wards of the NCC.

PABNA: The programme has been inaugurated in the Pabna Municipality area. 
DC Aminul Islam, Additional SP Shariful Islam, Additional DC Moniruzzaman, Municipal Commissioner Khairul Islam, Pabna Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Tamara Tasbiha, District Bar President Adv Masud Khandaker, Pabna Press Club General Secretary Zahurul Islam, Executive Engineer Shahinuzzaman, Municipal Executive Officer Dulal Uddin, Assistant Director of 250-bed Pabna General Hospital Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Hasan, RMO Dr Mohammad Zahidul Islam, Resident Surgeon Dr Mohammad Hasanuzzaman, Head Teacher of Pabna District School, Head Teacher of Pabna Government Girls’ High School and journalists were present. Under this programme, trees were planted on the premises of the 250-bed Pabna General Hospital, and the ceremony was held at the Pabna District School.

PATUAKHALI: Organised by the district administration and Coastal Forest Division, Patuakhali, a programme to plant various species of fruit, forest and medicinal trees was inaugurated by the DC Dr Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury on the Jhautala premises on the banks of the Circuit House Pond on Saturday.

District BNP President and Zilla Parishad Administrator Snehangshu Sarkar Kutty, DDLG (Deputy Secretary) Jewel Rana, Additional DC (General) Masud ul Alam, Coastal Divisional Forest Officer Dr Md Zahidur Rahman Mia, Additional DC (Education and ICT) Mohammad Tarek Hawlader, Additional SP Kishore Roy, Sadar UNO Rawjatun Jannat, District BNP General Secretary (GS) Adv Mujibur Rahman Toton, Patuakhali Press Club President Md Zakir Hossain, Chamber of Commerce President Md Kamal Hossain, former president of the District Bar Association Advocate Humayun Kabir, Sadar Range Officer Amitabh Basu and executive magistrates of the DC office were present at that time.

PIROJPUR: The district administration and the Department of Forest jointly organised the programme on the DC office premises. 

DC Abu Sayed attended the programme as the chief guest while Zilla Parishad Administrator and Central BNP Member Principal Alamgir Hossain was the special guest.  

Among others, Additional DC (General) Md Alauddin Bhuyian Jony, Additional District Magistrate Tanjila Kabir Tropa, NSI Joint Director Md Mizanur Rahman, and Acting Forest Officer Yaqub Ali were present.

CHAR FASSON, BHOLA: UNO Rumana Afroz inaugurated the programme by planting an olive tree sapling on the bank of the pond on the Upazila Dak Bungalow premises.

UNO Rumana Afroz was present as the chief guest at the programme while Char Fasson Range Officer Salam Hossain chaired the event and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Emadul Hossain was present as the special guest.

At that time, the chief guest said that trees not only enhance the beauty of the environment, but are also closely related to people's lives and livelihoods. There is no alternative to tree plantation to face the challenges of climate change. In order to create a habitable and green world for the present generation as well as the future generation, everyone must come forward to plant trees from their respective positions.

JALDHAKA, NILPHAMARI: At the initiative of the upazila administration, MP Bilkis Islam inaugurated the programme on the Upazila Parishad Pond bank on Saturday afternoon. 

UNO Jannatul Ferdous Happy, officials of various government departments, and leaders of socio-political organisations were present at that time.

At that time, MP Bilkis Islam said, “There is no alternative to planting trees to make the country beautiful and green. Therefore, I call upon everyone to plant one tree.”

KAPTAI, RANGAMATI: The upazila administration and Department of Forest organised the programme at Baraichhari Karnaphuli Nurul Huda Kaderi High School in the upazila. 

Former chairman of Kaptai Upazila Parishad Dildar Hossain, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Syed Mahmud Hasan, Kaptai Range Officer of Department of Forest Mamunur Rahman, Baraichhari Nurul Huda Kaderi High School Donor Member Khorshedul Alam Kaderi, School Head Teacher Joyseem Barua, along with school teachers and students were present.

NALITABARI, SHERPUR: UNO Md Abdul Malek inaugurated the programme on the Nalitabari Municipality premises on Saturday morning. Municipal Executive Officer Abdul Wadud, journalist MA Hakam Hira and officials and employees of the municipality were present at the inauguration ceremony.

According to the upazila administration, under this programme, 23,000 saplings of different species of trees will be planted in Nalitabari Upazila and 1,000 saplings of different species in the municipal area in the next six months. 

Speakers at the event said that there is no alternative to tree plantation to protect the environment. At the same time, everyone's cooperation is sought to make this government programme a success.

SINGRA, NATORE: The upazila administration and Department of Forest organised the programme inaugurated by UNO Abdullah Al Rifat on the Singra Damdama Pilot School and College premises on Saturday afternoon. 

Present at the event were Upazila BNP Member Secretary Professor Sharful Islam, former chairman of Tajpur Union Shahadat Hossain, Municipal BNP Convener Sakhawat Hossain, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Shahadat Hossain, Forest Officer Mizanur Rahman, Police Inspector (investigation) Shafiqul Islam, GS of Singra Diabetic Association Milon Hossain, BNP member Saidur Rahman Sadhu, former VP Shamim Hossain, Municipal BNP Member Mohidul Islam, former student leader Rafiqul Islam Bullet, Swechchhasebak Dal Convener Abdullah Al Kafi, former municipal councilor Rafiqul Islam, Zia Parishad President Professor Harun-or-Rashid, lecturer Akhter Hossain, journalist and environmental activist Saiful Islam, and Abdul Alim Khaja, etc.
