Rape case accused held within 9 hrs

NAOGAON, June 20: RAB-5 has arrested the accused in a rape case filed with Naogaon Sadar Police Station (PS) within just 9 hours of the case being filed. RAB-5, Rajshahi office informed this in a press release on Friday afternoon.

The arrested Md Shariful Islam, 30, is a resident of Saraswatipur Village in Mahadebpur Upazila of Naogaon.

RAB said that a case was filed on Thursday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on charges of raping a mentally disabled woman on the night of June 11 in Kadamtali Mor area of Mahadebpur Upazila.

After the case was filed, an operation team of RAB-5's CPC-3, Joypurhat conducted the operation and arrested the accused Shariful Islam from the Kadamtali Mor area of Mahadebpur Upazila on Thursday evening. He has been handed over to Naogaon Sadar Police Station for further legal action.
