A teacher reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Tungipara Upazila of Gopalganj on Sunday as he could not bear the pressure of his debt burden.
The incident took place in Dariarkul Village under Patgati Union of the upazila at around 4am.
Deceased Bidyut Kanti Roy, 58, a resident of the same area, was the head teacher of Patgati Munshipara Government Primary School.
Quoting the deceased’s family members and locals, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Tungipara Police Station (PS) Moslem Ali said that Bidyut Kanti had been suffering from extreme mental pressure as he could not be able to bear his debt burden. As a sequel to it, he hanged himself from a branch of a tree beside his house at around 4am.
Later on, locals saw his hanging body in the morning and informed the police.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
An unnatural death case was filed with the PS in this connection, the SI added.
