TCB dealers allege discrimination in licence renewal process

A group of Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) dealers on Sunday accused the corporation's authorities of discrimination, irregularities, and harassment in the renewal process of dealership licences, demanding the immediate renewal of licences for all eligible dealers. They alleged that the current process lacked transparency and fairness.

The allegations were made at a press conference held at the Maulana Mohammad Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club in Dhaka by the TCB dealers who claimed to have been deprived of licence renewal despite meeting all legal requirements.

Speaking on behalf of the affected dealers, Farid Uddin Ahmed Jewel, a dealer under the TCB Dhaka Regional Office, said the dealers had applied for renewal following a TCB notice issued on April 6, 2025, by submitting a non-refundable pay order of Tk 5,000.

He said the applications were later-on verified by the district administrations, and deputy commissioners recommended the renewal of licences for eligible dealers after conducting field investigations and checking all necessary documents.

Yet,  the dealers alleged that TCB ignored these recommendations and instead issued notices to recruit new dealers across the country.
According to them, the decision contradicts TCB's revised Dealer Policy-2025, which clearly states that dealers recommended by district administrations should have their licences renewed.
