A college student was killed in a head-on collision between two busses on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway in Chattogram's Lohagara upazila on Tuesday morning.
Deceased Sumaiya Jannat, 19, was the first-year honours student of Chattogram Women’s College and daughter of Maulana Arifur Rahman of Arabshah Ghona area under Puichhari union in Banshkhali upazila.
The accident occurred around 7.30AM in the Chunati Police Outpost area.
According to the police, quoting eyewitnesses, a Chattogram-bound 'Purabi Paribahan' bus collided with a Cox’s-Bazar-bound 'Imperial bus', leaving Sumaiya, who was travelling on the Purabi Paribahan bus, critically injured.
The locals then rescued her and rushed her to Lohagara Trauma centre, where doctors declared her dead.
Dr. Saimun Siraj, the on-duty physician at the trauma centre, said the injured woman had died before reaching the hospital.
Dohazari Highway Police Station OC Salah Uddin Chowdhury said the busses involved in the accident had been seized and legal proceedings are underway.
