Three police personnel have been withdrawn from duty following the escape of a murder case accused from police custody at a camp under Savar Model Police Station.
The disciplinary action was taken against Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASIs) Robiul Islam and Khairul Alam, and Constable Tofayel, all of whom were serving at the Bhakurta Police Camp.
Confirming the matter on Tuesday, Bhakurta Police Camp In-Charge Anwarul Islam said the three officers had been attached to Dhaka District Police Lines pending further proceedings.
According to police sources, Ashab Uddin, president of the Ward No. 5 unit of the Awami League in Bhakurta Union, was arrested on Saturday in connection with a student murder case. He was later taken to the Bhakurta Police Camp for interrogation.
During his stay at the camp, Ashab allegedly managed to escape by taking advantage of the negligence and inattentiveness of the officers on duty.
Savar Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nur Mohammad said a preliminary inquiry had found evidence of negligence on the part of the police personnel involved.
He added that efforts are underway to locate and re-arrest the fugitive accused.
