Mother, two daughters hacked dead at Raipur

A woman and her two daughters were hacked to death in Raipur Upazila of Lakshmipur on Thursday.

The incident took place at the woman’s rented house in Ward No. 3 Godown Road area under Raipur Municipality that also left her another daughter injured.

The deceased were identified as Shahinur Begum, 38, hailed from Cumilla, and her two daughters Saima Akter, 21, a student of Dhaka University, and Shifa Akter, 9. The injured is Ikra Akter, a student of Raipur Kazi Faruki College.

Meanwhile, a youth believed to be involved in the incident was given a mob beating and admitted to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital. Seven police personnel were also injured after being hit by brick chips while on duty to control aggrieved people.

According to police and local sources, Shahinur had been living in the rented house along with her three daughters and one son for several years after her husband Md Kamal died from electrocution a couple of years back.

Raipur Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Baharul Alam said five injured people were brought to the hospital, and among them, Shahinur and her two daughters died. Another girl was shifted to Dhaka in critical condition. All of them had injuries caused by sharp weapons. He added that another person, who was injured in a mob beating in connection with the incident, also had sharp weapon injuries on his head.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Raipur Circle) Md Abdur Rashed confirmed the incident.
